” Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye… one little blackbird baked in a pie”
Autumn is the season for apples and in our house Apple Pie. I have had a few unsuccessful attempts at making Apple Pie over the years and this year I was determined to finally churn out a good pie. So I gathered up all the ingredients;
and enlisted some extra help from a little blackbird;
The mouth of the bird acts as a vent the hole for steam to escape the pie, allowing the pastry to rise and prevents it from getting soggy;
I must say although my pie didn’t receive a Michelin rating it did turn out a lot better than previous years- and looked rather twee!
Poor little birdie!
