I bought this Black Flannel Jacket in the winter sales from Laura Ashley last year….but it was too warm to wear it back then. Autumn’s cool mornings are well and truly here and I think it’s definitely jacket weather now-yay! I decided to wear it for the first time yesterday;
I bought it because I fell in love with its 1940’s cut- the puff sleeves with define shoulder pads, its narrow lapels and because it is made of ‘wool flannel’. Wool Flannel one of the softest suiting wools available and was commonly used in menswear since Victorian times. It is super soft, never itches and falls beautifully when used in tailored garments. I swoon over loads of vintage dress jackets (especially the Lilli Ann) but the waist are far too small for me-some of those World War 2 ration book women had waists smaller than my 12 year old Darling Girl !!!! So this little jacket is a happy compromise.
Also making its debut outing was my Atomic Dress from Sunny Girl, with a 40’s look cut wise but made with modern stretch fabric-not at all authentic but super slimming-double yay! Have a peek at the darling rouched cap sleeve detail, so dainty and flattering;
Best of all it looks as good from behind as it does from the front. It’s nice to know that you look as good leaving a room as you did entering it;
Hope you like my improvised 40’s look!
