I fell in love with this photo of Dita Von Teese quite some time ago;
Sigh- she is just soooo pretty!
Although that style of dress wouldn’t suit me I used it as inspiration to make a summer frock with some blue and white toile fabric that I had in my stash.
When it came to choosing a style I had a few criteria; it had to be full-skirted (so I could wear a yummy petticoat underneath) and I wanted a fitted bodice. So I decided to do make it in the same style as last years Christmas Dress;
I made this by blending the skirt from a 1950’s Vogue pattern and the bodice of a modern New Look pattern. I will make a few adjustments to the fit and trims but hopefully those changes will be for the better- it was a little loose in the bodice.
Here is the picky of the initial stage of my dress, on my dressmaker’s dummy;
When the bodice is attached to the skirt the patterns will match up…it just doesn’t look like it in this photo…but it did when I pinned it all together…I swear it did !?!
Stay tuned for the next installment…the lining.
