Over the last couple of weeks I have had a few projects on the go…a few too many…and too few hours to do them in.
So, after lots of stop starting, I have finally finished my 1957 Vogue Dress that I started quite some time ago-yay!
When I first started this project I was a bit dubious about its full, gathered skirt with rouching at the waist.
I was right to be dubious….the resulting dress hasn’t been the kindest shape for my figure. But with the addition of its matching cummerbund, or a belt, (if I’m feeling saucy) it is quite passable.
The dress was quite straight forward to sew, although I did have to add a dart to the side of the bust to correct the shape slightly ( I never seem to have enough bosom to fill out these vintage patterns).
I also elected to fully line the bodice, instead of using finishing tape at the bust and arms. I find finishing tape and returns very fiddly and it ends up looking like very messy and unprofessional for me.
I elected to stitch the hem by hand to give it a bit better finish…that was a bit of a mistake, it took over three hours….I would probably recommend the use of a sewing machine to anyone else attempting this pattern.
All up I was very happy with how it turned out and this dress is a great opportunity to use all my lemon accessories, that I have accumulated over the last couple of months.
